2009 PCCHA Cutting Stakes finalist and Horse of the Year, Metallic Cat <\/strong>(High Brow Cat x Shers Shadow), ridden by Beau Galyean, went head-to-head all year against Dont Look Twice<\/strong> (High Brow Cat x Tapt Twice x Dual Pep) ridden by Phil Rapp. Metallic Cat secured the Horse of the Year<\/strong> position after the South Point show in Las Vegas earlier in October.<\/p>\n

However, the PCCHA Futurity & Stakes show in Paso Robles offered an even greater opportunity for Metallic Cat<\/strong>.\u00a0 This show was to be Metallic Cat’s chance to surpass the record of ‘most money won in one year–a record currently held by the great Smart Little Lena<\/strong>. He would have had to have placed 3rd or better to attain that goal. After the disappointing ‘hot quit’ shown below, those hopes were dashed.<\/p>\n

In 2009, Metallic Cat showed 12 times, making the finals all 12 times while Don’t Look Twice missed only one futurity finals. Metallic Cat is to be retired for full-time breeding from this point forth. He bred 80 mares in 2009.<\/p>\n

Below are two videos–one of which shows the ‘hot quit’ that dashed Metallic Cat’s chances to surpass Smart Little Lena’s record one-year winnings. Still, it was an impressive showing.<\/p>\n
